On Flag Day, June 14, 2017 a heroic war vet and valiant police officer M Sgt. J. E. Mann walked into heaven to meet his Lord from his home in Midwest City, OK. He was born 12-28-1945 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Johnnie Ellis Mann and Helen Louise Teague. After completing high school in Hot Springs, Johnnie enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965 quickly earning the rank of Sergeant. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart in combat. He was awarded numerous other medals and 3 Presidential Citations. He completed four tours of duty as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Polk, Louisiana and was assigned to the National Honor Guard at Arlington Cemetery. After leaving the Army, Johnnie began his Law Enforcement service in the Terrebonne Parrish, Louisiana Sheriff’s Department where he obtained the rank of Captain. Later he was employed by his native home town of Hot Springs, Arkansas Police Department where he retired as a Master Sergeant and completing forty combined years of Law Enforcement Service. Johnnie is survived by his precious wife, Darlene and four sons, Kevin and wife Angela of Hot Springs, Bryan and wife Natalie of Russellville, AR, Michael Mann of Harrison, AR and Terry Mann also of Harrison, AR. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry Mann of Hot Springs, Ronny Mann and wife Donna of Hot Springs, and sisters, Teresa Luneau and husband David of Harrison, AR, Tammy Barnes of Hot Springs, AR, his 7 grandchildren and the four pet cats he adored. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Danny Mann and Jesse Mann (as a brother). Visiting will be Tuesday 6-8 PM at Hot Springs Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Trinity Church 670 Panama St. Hot Springs. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Chief Gary Ashcraft, Chief Bobby Southard, Captain Bill Cooley, Captain Gary Miller, Captain Willie McCoy, Lieutenant Mike Gregor, Sergeant Bill Gaut, Sergeant Larry Douglas and Sergeant Boyd Heath. In lieu of flowers, send bereavement to 9105 Oak Cliff Drive, Midwest City, Oklahoma 73130.
