Mary "Jackie" Cooper

December 23, 1930 - March 30, 2016

Mary Inez Hoyle “Jackie” Cooper went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 30, 2016. Jackie was born to Bernie and Esther Hoyle on December 23, 1930 in Poteau, Oklahoma. She graduated from Poteau High School in 1948, and went to Hot Springs to attend St. Joseph’s Training School for nurses. While there, she met Don B Cooper, fell in love, and married the love of her life on December 26, 1950. Don and Jackie lived in various places around the US and Canada during Don’s career with Mobil Oil Corporation. While in Denver, she completed her LPN degree and served as a nurse in the cancer ward. Jackie and Don retired to Hot Springs in 1988. Jackie became active at Oaklawn United Methodist Church, and attended and volunteered there faithfully. She was a constant member of the Mary Clifton Sunday School class. She loved the youth of the church, had an ever-ready smile for them and is famous for the brownies she made for their events. She crocheted many prayer shawls for church members in need. She also volunteered with the Garland County Historical Society. Her humor and quick wit were always evident, especially her one-liners! Jackie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Don, her son Larry Don Cooper, her brother Alton Calloway, and her sister Macie “Jiggs” Smith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (“Nanny”), dedicated Christian and friend. Jackie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Jackie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jackie Jo and David Fastenow of Hot Springs, grandson William David Fastenow (Rachel) of Los Angeles, grandson Aaron Hoyle Cooper of Sacramento, CA, his mother Jackie Maillet (Neal and Brenna) of Pleasant Hill, CA, sister Willa Grace “Jo” Armstrong of Savannah, TX, cousin Jean Kazimier of Hot Springs, life-long friend Martha “Bothy” Voegle of Midwest City, OK, nephew James Hayes (Jack Cleaton) of West Palm Beach, FL, nephew Gary Hayes (Clare) of Savannah, TX, nieces Ellen Taylor, Mary Canon, Lena Briar (David), Georgia Marr, nephews Benny Calloway, Jerry Calloway (Brenda), Ronnie Calloway (Carolyn), James Calloway (Martha), and many other dear relatives, friends and wonderful neighbors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oaklawn United Methodist Church Family Life Center Fund. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, April 9, at Oaklawn United Methodist Church with Reverend Russ Breshears officiating. There will be a visitation just prior to the celebration of life, starting at 1:00PM. Pallbearers will be William Fastenow, Aaron Cooper, Jimmy Fulkerson, Jerry Binns, Sam Curry and Jim Keary. Her Mary Clifton Sunday School class and Wednesday Bible Study group are honorary pallbearers.
