June 7, 1925 - September 1, 2017
Elizabeth “Libby” Rager, 92, of Hot Springs passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 in Malvern, Arkansas at Encore Memory care unit from Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on June 7, 1925 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late James and Marie Stalcup. She and her half-sister (Marie Burk) were raised by her mom who was a widow and the family bread winner. Her rough grandmother, Icy Skinner, made all her clothes and was neatly kept during those years. She loved school and graduated one of 10 teens, from Green Township High School in Indiana, where she was a cheerleader. She loved staying up late and reading by candlelight not to disturb anyone. She attended Business College in her late 20’s and graduated with honors. She loved learning and later acquired her realtor license. She married at the age of 16 to the handsome Don Rager and shared their lives nearly 50 years. Together they raised 3 daughters. Her work career included a Doctor’s office manager in Indiana to Personnel Manager at National Rejecters in Hot Springs. Then 20 plus years with St. Joseph Hospital in the Home Health department where she retired in her late 70’s. She loved working with people and was of the generation where your work was an important part of life. Raising her family on Lake Hamilton, she loved lake living, BBQ in the backyard to the endless party barge rides. Her home was always open to family and friends and there was always good food for all who stopped by. She loved cold beverages, sitting in the yard by the lake, enjoying the serenity after work under her favorite shade tree. During her long life, she enjoyed being part of 5 generations three times. Think of that for a minute!! She was an avid photographer and took albums full of her beloved family and her travel bug. She said, “I’ve been in every state except “Hawaii and Alaska.” She loved traveling and learning about different cultures and visiting family and friends around our beautiful country, The USA. Libby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her bright smile and happiness seems to spread to everyone in her vicinity. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Donald Rager, one daughter, Peggy Singleton and one sister, Marie Burk. Survivors include two daughters, Sally (Ardy) Tackett and Judy Hebert, both of Hot Springs, special friends, Bill and Mary Brake of Hot Springs, seven grandchildren, Mindy (Richard) Simerley, Hope (Chris) Rucks, McRee (Chandra) Anderson, Jamie Anderson, Julie Bobo (Scott) Shisler, Aimee (RanDell) Maull and Kimberly Anderson Moore; ten great grandchildren, Cora Bobo Shisler, Lauren Bobo Shisler, Liam Anderson, Benjamin Anderson, Tyler Maull, Randee Maull, Jacob Maull, Parker Maull, Haley Nix and Eric (Michele) Lee; and one great-great grandchild, Ericson Lee. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Humane Society in honor of her beloved Schnauzer (Peanut).
