Clara B. “Peggy” Johnson passed from this life on Wednesday August 3, 2016 at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Johnson of Hayward, CA, her parents, William Frank Reed and Pearl Rodgers Reed of Licking, MO, and six siblings – Leota Hamilton, Robert Reed and Oscar Reed, all of Licking, MO, Lorena Tweed and Sally Shacklette, of Houston, MO, and Frank Reed of Hot Springs, AR, and by three nephews, Bobby Reed of Licking, MO, and Wayne Reed and Terry Reed, both of Hot Springs, AR. Peggy Reed Johnson was born in Licking, MO, on June 14, 1929 as the sixth of seven children. Upon graduation from high school in nearby Houston, MO, she attended business school and then moved to St. Louis, where she worked for the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce. Later career stops took her to Phoenix, AZ and Northern California, where she worked in the business offices of several trucking companies. She married Charles Johnson, a trucking industry executive, and the couple lived most of their life together in Hayward, CA, where they were active in a local Ford Antique Car club. Following his death she moved to Henderson, NV, before moving to Hot Springs in her final years. She lived 32 years after being diagnosed with, and beating cancer. Mrs. Johnson is survived by eight nieces and nephews, and by one sister-in-law: Jim Tweed (Sandy) Tweed of Raymore, MO; Duke Tweed of St. James, MO; Earl Hamilton Jr. (Shirley) of Florissant, MO; Kathy Reed, of Hot Springs, AR; Dan Reed (Janet) of Fort Worth, TX;, and Deloris Krewson (Jim), Steve Reed, Brian Reed (Anita), plus sister-in-law Rae Reed, all of Licking MO. Survivors also include her dear caregiver, Kathy Davis (Glenn), plus three very special dogs - Halo, Harpo and Noah - who were a great source of comfort, joy and life in her final years. Special recognition for their compassionate care and friendship also goes to Dr. John Bond, Julie Fisher and the staff of CHI St. Vincent’s Hot Springs, the staff of Arkansas Hospice Inpatient Center, and the professional staff at Brookfield Assisted Living in Hot Springs who provided six years of loving and respectful care. A graveside service is planned for 12:00 noon, Monday, August 8th at Boone Creek Baptist Cemetery in Licking, MO.
