Reverend Carlos E. Martin of Brandon, MS, and former resident of Clinton, MS, and Hot Springs, AR, died Sunday, January 28, 2018. He began his earthly journey December 27, 1924, at Austin, AR, the son of the late Reverend and Mrs. J. R. Martin of Cabot. Reverend Martin graduated from high school at Prescott, AR. A member of what Tom Brokaw calls "The Greatest Generation," he served 3½ years in the U. S. Navy during World War II. After his time in the service, he attended Hendrix College and received his degree. He was also a graduate of Perkins School of Theology at SMU, receiving his Master of Divinity degree. Reverend Martin served the following appointments: Greenbrier, Winfield in Little Rock, St. Luke in Pine Bluff, Lewisville, St. Paul in El Dorado, Hamburg Charge, Carlisle, Oaklawn in Hot Springs, St. Luke in Little Rock and First Church in Hot Springs. Following retirement, he was named Pastor Emeritus at Hot Springs First. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Verlene Richardson Martin, a daughter, Judy Martin Cook, and an infant brother, Clyde. Survivors include his son, Ron of Brandon, MS; a son-in-law, Toby M. Cook; 5 grandchildren, Laura Cook Walls of Ocean Springs, MS, Carla Cook Diffenderfer of Durham, NC, Amie Cook, Eric Martin and Catherine Martin of Brandon, MS; one great-grandchild, Erich Walls of Ocean Springs, MS. The Service of Celebration will be at First United Methodist Church, Hot Springs, Thursday morning, February 1, at 11:00. A time of visitation will precede the service, beginning at 10:00. Interment will follow the Service of Celebration at Crestview Memorial Park. Hot Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, 1100 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, AR 71901.
