Susan Annette Smoke

Susan Annette Smoke, age 63, went to her heavenly home January 4, 2023 surrounded by her family. She is now with the love of her life, Jesus Christ. She was born March 30, 1959 in Malvern, Arkansas. Her younger years she lived in Magnet Cove until moving to Hot Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents. John L. Smoke and Hester Smoke Furr; sister, Dana Furr Hampton; niece, Kristeen King and nephew, Eric Furr. Susan is survived by one son, Jonathon Smoke of Hot Springs; one daughter, Nikki Grauds of Huntsville, Texas; two grandsons, Kolt Bacon of Huntsville, Texas and Jared Durden of Bismarck, Arkansas; three brothers, Ricky (Glenda) Smoke of Bismarck, Arkansas, Jimmy Smoke of Hot Springs, Arkansas and David (Brenda) Furr of Kirby, Arkansas; two sisters, Joyce (Jim) Shelor and Carolyn Ellison both of Hot Springs, Arkansas; numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins who will miss her. Susan had numerous friends but her “other sisters to her” were Beverly Green, Lisa Brown, Kathy Wilkie, Trenda Gossett Starr, Kimberly Sexton-Hodgson, Alicia Mason and her sisters at Hot Springs The Assemblies. Susan always bonded and considered her nursing team as her close family which are too numerous to name all. Just know if you worked with Susan you loved her as she loved you. Susan graduated in 1977 high school class at Hot Springs, Arkansas. She remained close to many of her graduating class and had recently attended their class reunion. She graduated in 1978 from Vo-Tech at Garland County Community College with her LPN license. She was a passionate, smart, excellent nurse for many years. She returned to school and graduated from Garland Co Community College with her RN degree in class of 2000. She graduated from SUM Bible College and Theological Seminary with a Bachelor’s degree in 2020 while she was receiving treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Susan worked at the Ouachita Memorial Hospital and National Park Medical Center as Med/Surg nurse, Renal (ORDC), Cardiac and most of her career in the Operating Room. Her last duty at NMPC was on Dr. Warren’s heart team. Most of her career was as a surgical RN. She later did travel nurse assignments and was able to see many different states, where she met and continued many close friendships. She, also, worked at the Garland County Health Department and Odessy Hospice. Many cards and letters to her are what a compassionate, loving, fun to work with, excellent, smart nurse she was. She, also, volunteered for the Christian Chartable Clinic and had received a special letter of recognition for her service and it meant so much to her. She recently joined the Hot Springs chapter of the Arkansas Nurse Honor Guard. Susan received many awards, including, Employee of the Month, Dean’s List and has multiple letters of recognitions for her contributions for supporting missions, needs and providing such wonderful nursing care. Susan loved her children, grandchildren, siblings, and family. Her greatest heritage is sharing about Jesus. She was able to visit Israel, The Holy Land twice and loved to share of her experiences. Susan served on the mission field through SUMS Bible College and church in spreading the Word of God and organizing prayer groups as this was a passion for her. She loved to worship her Savior. Susan’s memorial service will be Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at The Assemblies Church, 2375 East Grand, Hot Springs, Arkansas. Visitation at 1:30 PM followed by services at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date with family only. Pastors Mike and Alicia Mason will officiate her service and the Hot Springs Chapter of the Arkansas Nurse Honor Guard will pay tribute to Susan for her years as a nurse and retire her from nursing duty. All are invited. A special thanks to Dr. Scott Erwin for years as her doctor, Dr. Timothy Webb, Arkansas Hospice, Blossom’s Rehab, and CHI. Thanks for all the calls, prayers, support to the family during this time. In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Hospital in honor of her 5 year old loved nephew, Bryson Ballentine.
