Norma Lee McKinnon

Norma Lee McKinnon entered in to Heaven on July 18, 2017. She was born October 30, 1948 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Rev. Rudolph Stanley Hawkins and Sally Imogene Reed Hawkins. She was the baby sister to Lou Hawkins Tabor (Morris) and wore that title like a badge of honor. She married the love of her life, Joseph Harold McKinnon, February 14, 1980. Her two daughters, Angel Kathryn Turoski (Ryan), and Tammye Michele Michau, joined with Joseph’s daughter’s, Deshawna McKinnon Cooper (Jay), and Carla Jo McKinnon to make up a family that would love and support Norma until she went to be with Jesus. Norma was a lifelong resident of Hot Springs and a savvy businesswoman. She was a popular insurance agent for many years and in retirement opened her own small quilting shop, Hickory Hill Quilts, which became wildly successful. Sharing her faith and smile was something people knew her for far and wide. She grew up traveling and singing gospel music with her parents and sister in the Hawkins Family. She loved music and could be heard every Sunday singing and playing the bass guitar at her church, Bismarck Pentecostal. In the summers, she rejoined the family to sing at Hickory Hill Park, where everyone's favorite, "Beulah Land," was often requested. We grew up in a house filled with music. She shared the love of Christ through her compassion, kindness and love for others. She was a devout Christian and a Godly woman. She expressed her love to Joseph and her children often, she was extremely proud of her family, as were they her. The legacy of her parents taught Norma to have a strong Christian faith and strong family values. She was overjoyed to become a grandmother to Charles "Kirk" Turoski (Paige), Noah Benjamin Turoski, Amanda Catherine Ramos (Xavier), Maegan Elizabeth Zucconi, Elizabeth Marie Carter, and Alexandrea Michelle Janes. She recently became a great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Sophia, Anthony, and Emilia, who lit up her heart. As her family grew she began to weave her parents' legacy of family and faith around each one of them. As a song bird she taught all of her children and grandchildren to sing about Jesus. "Jesus loves you this I know, for the Bible tells me so..." Norma was loved by many and many were loved by Norma. She is preceded in death by her parents, and survived by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her sister. Visitation is at Hot Springs Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday evening, with the funeral service at First Pentecostal Church in Hot Springs at 10:00 Saturday. Burial will be at Mountain Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Humane Society in her name can be sent to Relyance Bank, 4446 Central Ave, Hot Springs.
