Mary Burns

Mary Dezzie Burns, 94, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 24, at Fountain Lake Health and Rehab. She was a longtime member of the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Pearcy. Mary Dezzie Burns was born on November 10, 1916, in Parrish, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Benton Hicks and Lelia Dillon Hicks and one brother, Alvin Hicks. Mary is survived by one brother, Dewey Don Hicks and Sue of Niceville, Florida; one sister-in-law, Effie Hicks of Hot Springs. Mary “Aunt Dezzie” Burns is also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews: Jane and Roger Needham ,Don Hicks, Beth and Brett Graves of Hot Springs; Martha Hicks McDaniel and Heidi Hicks Kay of Henderson, Tennessee; Meredith Hicks of Moline, Illinois; David and Sharon Hicks of Springfield, Virginia; Joel Hicks of Alexandria, Virginia; and Karla and Rob Brown of Arlington, Virginia. Mary Burns is also survived by ten great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great niece and one great-great nephew. Mary Burns worked many years in Illinois at Sunbeam and Singer Industries. She moved to Pontiac, Michigan, and worked for food services at several schools. Before moving to Hot Springs in 1980, Mary worked as cafeteria manager at Whitfield School in Pontiac, Michigan. She also worked many years at the Salvation Army Store in Hot Springs. Services for Mary Burns will be on Saturday, May 28, beginning at 2:00 P.M at Hot Springs Funeral Home, 1017 Central Avenue with Bro. Dennis Anderson officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery on Highway 70. Honorary pallbearers are Lucille Kimzey, longtime friend and caregiver, Johnnie Hicks, and the members of the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle. Active pallbearers are Brett Graves, Evan Graves, Don Hicks, Michael Bell, Leon Bates, Randy Hill and Darrin Swisher.
