Marvin Edward Rowland

Marvin Edward Rowland, 83, of Hot Springs died in a local hospital, with his son by his side on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. He was born in Bauxite, Arkansas on March 18, 1931, to Luther Rowland and Estelle Cozart Rowland. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Floy Mae Rowland; infant son, Larry Edward Rowland; brother, Billy Ralph Rowland; sister, Martha Jackson and grandson, Donovan Fernandez. He was a member of Winan Missionary Baptist Church for 60 years, where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school earlier in his life. Marvin always had a smile on his face, laughed at everything and never met a stranger. He spent his working years at Keith Smith, Hubbard and Son, Thibault Milling Company and Caldwell Milling Company from which he retired. His hobbies were gardening and planting flowers. Neighbors often drove by just to look at his flowers. He later enjoyed trips to Central Lanes to watch the bowlers bowl. Marvin is survived by two sons, Gary (Karla) Rowland and Rick (Denise) Rowland; four sisters, Joyce Davis, Sue McGuire, both from Hot Springs; Carolyn (Richard) Neff of Royal; Mary Strode of Canton, IL; two brothers, John Millsap of Bernice, LA and Paul Wayne Millsap of Antioch, CA; four grandchildren, Chris (Christyl) Rowland of Benton; Jeffrey (Amanda) Rowland of Pottsboro, Texas; Derlene (Jimmy Jack) Montgomery of Hot Springs and Ruben (Lulu) Fernandez of Denver, CO; nine great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ayden and Alaya Montgomery, all of Hot Springs and Giselle and Jonah Fernandez of Denver, CO; Alexis and Aleena Rowland of Benton; Brian and Leah Rowland of Pottsboro, TX, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at Winan Missionary Baptist Church. Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Winan Missionary Baptist Church. Bro. Herbert Watts and Bro. Edgar Sutton will conduct the service. Pallbearers are Ronny Spurlin, Ken Spurlin, Greg Spurlin, Mike Hughes, Ken Livingston, Lloyd Jordan and Leon Ault. Honorary Pallbearers are Members of Winan Missionary Baptist Church, all relatives not mentioned above, Dr. John Bond, Jr. and Dr. Jeffery Tauth.
