Kent Lawhorn

Family and many friends that are considered family are mourning the sudden loss of Kent Lawhorn, who departed this life for the next, at his home, Wednesday, November 16th at the age of 66. He was born on November 29, 1949 to the late Floyd and Jean Lawhorn in Temple, Texas. He was of the Baptist faith, a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was an inspector with McClelland Consulting Engineers Inc. in Little Rock. Kent is survived by his soul mate of 30 years, his best friend and love of his life, Julie Lawhorn of Hot Springs. Kent and Julie shared in their love for family and friends, of life’s great adventures, both big and small, and their love of travel. Kent is also survived by one son, Monty (Erin) Renfro of Anna, Texas, three daughters, Mariah Reyes of Bryan, Texas, Aaya Lawhorn of Van Nuys, California, and Katie (Matthew) Hathaway of Murphy, Texas, three brothers, Bruce (Debra) Lawhorn of College Station, Texas, Craig (LaWanda) Lawhorn of Burnet, Texas and Rhett Lawhorn of College Station, Texas, one sister, Lisa (Herbert) Beltrametti of Switzerland, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Kent forever had a twinkle in his eye, and made others feel at ease. He was an enormously gifted calligrapher, a talent that he joyfully shared with others. Kent treasured their life-long friends and colleagues, past and present, most recently, the staff and students of the National Park College nursing program, many of whom became members of their extended family. The day his Julie was accepted into the nursing program, Kent presented his love with these words: “Do not follow where the path leads, go instead where there is no path, and leave a trail.” Unsurprisingly, Kent and Julie both, wish to have their earthly remains given to "Genesis" to support the Medical Education & Research Institute (MERI), a medical education, hands-on training and research facility based in Memphis, Tennessee, and now his generosity is extended to others, even in death, to help those that remain, have hope for a better quality of life and a brighter future. Kent would have it no other way.
