John L. Gilbert

Johny “John” or “J.L.” Lemuel Gilbert, 81, of Pearcy, went to heaven on Sunday, January 4, 2015. He was born at Marked Tree, Arkansas, on June 2, 1933 to the late Samuel Lemuel Gilbert, Sr. and Emma Edna Wilson Lacey. John was a Korean War Veteran. He worked as a welder for most of his life in Arkansas. He enjoyed bowling and played on bowling leagues. He also enjoyed fishing and took his children fishing many times. He told many stories from his childhood that others enjoyed listening to. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Egbert of Marion and Sammy Jean Farmer of Hot Springs; his half-brothers, Benjamin F. Gilbert and Johnny Ray Gilbert of Marked Tree; and a great-grandson, Riley Dorn of Pearcy. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ella Freda Gilbert; his children: Carol Gilbert of Hot Springs, Mary Hammock of Pearcy, Johnny (Melissa) Gilbert of Bismarck, Sheila Gilbert of Royal, and Susan Holmes of Hot Springs; his grandchildren: Summer Dorn of Hot Springs, Grace and Charity Gilbert of Bismarck, Tony Hughes of Fayetteville, Sheila (JP) Prall of Hot Springs, LaToyia Hughes of Hot Springs , and Timothy Hughes of Hot Springs, Kristen (James) Vaughn of Lonsdale, Edward Holmes of Hot Springs, and John Holmes of Hot Springs; his great-grandchildren: Skylar and Micaela Dorn of Pearcy, Gabriel and Alexia Hughes of Fayetteville, Jaxon Prall of Hot Springs, Brooke, Joshua, and Brayden Hughes of Hot Springs, Dominic and London Hughes of Hot Springs, Helen Hunter, and Christian Vaughn of Hot Springs, and Bentley Holmes of Hot Springs; his half-brothers and half-sister: Samuel Lemuel (Joyce) Gilbert, Jr., Rex Allen Gilbert, Jimmy Ray Gilbert and Linda Sue Gilbert of Marked Tree; and his brothers-in-law: Columbus G. (Iva) Garrett of Santa Fe Springs, California and Clifton H. Garrett of Pearcy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins; and a host of friends. Family would like to thank CHI St. Vincent staff, Arkansas Hospice Care staff, and the VA Hot Springs Clinic staff and CAVHS staff. Memorials may be made to any Veterans organization. Memorial Service will be announced at future date as John and his family chose body donation to Genesis.
