Joe Smith

Joe T. Smith, 77, of Hot Springs died on Saturday, November, 5, 2011. He was born October 27, 1934 to the late John Allen Smith and Ola Ethel Robbins Smith in Hot Springs. He was a life resident of Hot Springs, a horse shoer in the Hot Springs area all his life. He not only was a horse shoer but also taught his trade to many people in this area. He always said he was the most blessed person in the world because he thoroughly enjoyed his work. He was a faithful member of the Mountain Valley Baptist Church and he loved the Lord and his church. He loved all the members of his church and enjoyed cooking fish and smoking meats for church functions. As his hobby, he broke horses for many people and enjoyed showing horses. He was a member of the Arkansas Appaloosa Horse Club for many years, member of the Arkansas Chuckwagon Racing Association and the International Chapter of Journeyman Horse Shoers. He was predeceased by brothers, James Allen Smith, Johnnie Virgil Smith and Jerry Smith. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Sondra Smith of Hot Springs, one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Kelly Smith of Danville, Indiana, three daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Tim Hughes of Bryant, AR, Sheila and Walt English of Marysville, Indiana and Malinda and Larry Dalton of Scotsburg, Indiana, one sister, Joyce Walters of Hot Springs, eleven grandchildren, James Vaughn, Jason Vaughn, Patricia Brown, Ben Vaughn, Josh English, Renee English, John English, Breanna Smith, Brogan Smith Lauren Hughes and Blake Hughes, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Hot Springs Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in Memorial Gardens Cemetery with his nephew, Gary Smith officiating. Pallbearers are his nephews, Benny Walters, Rick Agre, Brent Smith, Jeff Smith, Sam Smith and Doug Smith. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Mountain Valley Baptist Church, Pat Mahoney, Dennis Boykin, Keith Whiley, Johnny Jackson, Josh Tillery, Jason Palmer and Danny Dickey. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to Mountain Valley Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8015, Hot Springs, 71910.
