Carolyn Fletcher

Bernita “Carolyn” Fletcher, also known as Kaki, age 88 of Hot Springs, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2023. She was born at Alicia, AR, October 14, 1934 to the late Charles and Pauline Grigsby. Carolyn graduated from Bradford High School in 1951 and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree at Arkansas State Teachers College. Carolyn taught at numerous high schools including Bald Knob and Little Rock Central. She spent many years teaching adult business education at Pulaski Vocational Technical School and later was an integral part in the development and conversion of the business department at Pulaski Technical College until she retired in 1994. She was also a passionate typing teacher to each of her grandkids. Carolyn was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her husband Joe Fletcher had a loving marriage for 50 years. Carolyn had the most admirable characteristics and her beauty was only intensified by her strength the last five years, as she bravely fought and beat cancer for the second time in her life. Her beauty ran so much deeper than her “custom” mauve lipstick. Carolyn’s loving and caring nature was treasured by all who knew her. Carolyn and her family enjoyed many summers on Lake Hamilton and formed many lifelong friendships at Lakeland Lodge. She was an avid and enthusiastic fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. She was a devoted member and loved attending Oaklawn Chapel. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Pauline Grigsby, husband, Billy Joe Fletcher, and a brother, CF Grigsby. Left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law, Cleo Grigsby, son, Mark Fletcher (Laura), and daughters, Jo Lynne Harr and Gigi Nelson. Kaki leaves behind seven grandkids Jennifer Combee, Jason Fletcher (Erin), Traci Byrd (Aaron), Brittani Fletcher, Tyler Harr (Ashline), Austin Nelson (Haile), Kelsi Harr (Robert) and 13 great-grandkids, Garet, Michael, Braiden, Rayleigh, Ava, Lacey, Ella, Ryder, Ava, Brianna, Beau, Knox, and Quigley. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Austin Nelson, Aaron Byrd, Tyler Harr, Garet Raborn, Robert Cline and Jason Fletcher Honorary pallbearers are Paul Steed, Lance Urrey, David McNair and Braiden Mauer. Services will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 at 10am at Hot Springs Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:30 until service time. Graveside service will be at 3pm in Bald Knob at Shady Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Arkansas Race Track Chaplaincy, PO Box 20564, Hot Springs, AR 71913.
